Taliban attacked a Pakistani Air Force Base early Friday, killing 16 troops and wounding 25 others, officials said.
Pakistan’s military said the attack began early Friday morning in Peshawar. Among those dead is a base captain, Asfandyar.
In a statement released by the Pakistan army, officials said clashes between Pakistani troops and the attackers also resulted in the death of at least thirteen attackers.
Following the attack, Pakistan’s army chief General Rahel Sharif headed to Peshawar.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack.
Pakistani Taliban in statement to the media claimed responsibility for the attack.
