At least 45 insurgents were killed in clashes with security forces in northern Balkh province on Wednesday, local officials said.
In addition, dozens of insurgents were injured.
Gen. Abdul Razaq Qaderi, a police official in Balkh, said that clashes took place in Chamtal district of the province in which Mawalwi Gulabuddin, Taliban’s shadow district governor, was also injured.
Qaderi said that clashes have been ongoing for more than five hours. In addition, a policeman was also killed in the clash.
However, officials said that the insurgents were being driven back from the area.
