Seventy security force members that were under siege by insurgents for 13 days have been rescued in a military operation.
The operation was conducted in Almar district of the province early Sunday and in addition to the troops being rescued, about 30 villages were cleared of insurgents, provincial police chief Sayed Aqa Adrabi said.
He said that the insurgents sustained major casualties in the operation but there is no exact information about the numbers.
However, he said that there were no security forces or civilian casualties in the operation.
Almar is one of the insecure districts in Faryab – despite many military operations.
