The Afghanistan football team finished top of Group B in their South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) match on Monday after beating Maldives by 4-1 at the Trivandrum International Stadium in Kerala.
This important win ensured that they will meet Sri Lanka and not favorites India in the semi-finals.
Afghanistan, the defending champions have won all their games convincingly. They beat Bangladesh by 4-0, Bhutan by 3-0 and Maldives by 4-1.
They have been good at scoring goals and also displayed strong defensive performances.
Afghanistan’s goals against Maldives were scored by Faysal Shayesteh (19th min), Omid Popalzay (34th and 54th min) and Ahmad Arash Hatifi (51st min).
Afghanistan will play Sri Lanka in the first semi-final on Thursday at 15:30, while India takes on Maldives at 18:30 in the 2nd match.
