Afghanistan Loses to Oman in T-20 Qualifier

The Afghan National Cricket Team lost a 20-overs match against Oman by 40 runs on Wednesday, the first loss out of five matches at the ICC T-20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Omani cricketers set a target of 144 runs by losing seven wickets after the Afghan captain, Ashghar Stanekzai, won the toss and elected to field first.

Chasing a relatively easy target, most of the Afghan middle order batsmen failed to reach even the double figure at their fifth match played at Goldenacre Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Despite a good start by the Afghan openers, the Afghan team was bowled in the 17th over when the total score was 104.

Mehran Khan of Oman was declared player of the match who took five catches and scored 28 runs off 25 balls.

Afghanistan won its first three matches against Netherlands, UAE and Scotland and the fourth match was drawn due to rain. However, the Afghan team still remains at the top of Group B standings.

Afghanistan will play its final match of the first round against Canada on 18 July.
