Army General Arrested For Drug Smuggling in Baghlan

An army general was arrested by police in northern Baghlan province on Tuesday for allegedly smuggling drugs, local officials said.

Nezamuddin Nezam, Director of the Counter Narcotics Police Headquarters of Baghlan said that Brigadier General Abdul Samad Habib who is the head of the recruitment division for the national army in northern Balkh province was arrested by the police on Tuesday.

“He had placed 19kg of heroin in a military vehicle in Takhar province and wanted to transfer it to Nangarhar province when arrested by the police,” Nezam said.

Two other military soldiers were also arrested with the brigadier general, he added.

However, he did not provide more details about the incident.
