Drone Strike in Wardak Kills 8 Insurgents, Including Commander

At least eight insurgents including their commander were killed in a drone strike by foreign troops in Wardak province early Thursday morning, local officials said.

The strike targeted a gathering of Taliban insurgents in Tor Khail area, said Abdul Wali Norzai Wardak police media officer said.

“Shafiullah is one of the Taliban commanders who was killed along with seven other followers,” said Norzai.

According to Norzai Shafiullah had a key role in the recent attack in Jalrez district in Wardak which resulted in deaths of nearly 30 Afghan Local Police (ALP) force members.

Their corpses were allegedly desecrated by the Taliban.

However, no civilian casualties were reported in the Thursday’s drone strike.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
