Five insurgents were killed on Thursday morning while trying to carry out a complex attack on the Arghandab District Governor Building in Kandahar, officials said.
Provincial governor spokesman Tamim Akhpalwak confirmed the incident and said the five insurgents, equipped with a car bomb, suicide vests and weapons, attacked the district governor building early Thursday morning.
According to Akhpalwak one insurgent died when he blew himself up in a car bomb at the entrance gate of the government building. The other four tried to storm the building.
However, security forces opened fire and killed the four before they could enter the building.
One security force member was also killed during the incident, Akhpalwak said.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
