At least five Taliban insurgents were killed in clashes in central Logar province, local officials said Thursday.
In addition, two other insurgents were injured.
The incident took place in Barak-e-Barak district of the province after Taliban insurgents attacked security outposts early Wednesday, District Governor Mohammad Rahim said.
“Four security force members were also injured in the clash. The clash is still ongoing in Cheltan area of Barak-e-Barak,” he said early Thursday morning.
He said that reinforcements have arrived from the capital of the province and the Taliban insurgents “will soon be defeated.”
However, by mid-morning Thursday, troops had brought the situation under control.
