German Embassy To Fund Girls School Gymnasium

The German Embassy in Kabul on Wednesday pledged 18 million Afs to the Aisha Durrani High School for an indoor gymnasium.

The planned 900 square meter facility will take six months to build and will provide a safe and secure sports environment for girls.

Speaking at an event on Wednesday, the German Ambassador to Kabul Markus Potzel said his country has plans to spend at least $13 million USD in total, much of which will be on sport and education in Afghanistan.

Elham Sharifi, a student at Aisha Durrani High School, welcomed the move by the German Embassy. “We will soon be able to exercise in a safe environment,” she said.

Another student, Fatana Sharif said the facility will help girls to improve their skills in various sporting codes.

With the new facility, the Aisha Durrani High School girls will be able to play basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
