President Ashraf Ghani Thursday said the government is determined to implement the laws against corruption on government officials in an equitable way.
Ghani made the remarks during a special ceremony at the presidential palace convened on occasion of the inauguration of Specialized Anti-Corruption Justice Center in Kabul.
“We are prepared to implement the law on all government officials regardless of their position, including myself. Based on our campaign promises, Dr. Abdullah and I will not tolerate corruption,” Ghani said.
In reference to the creation of Specialized Anti-Corruption Justice Center Ghani said that the center will help boost capacity against corruption. The law will be implemented evenhandedly on government officials.
Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah said corruption has hindered the development and progress of the country.
“The center has not been created for political purposes and no one can use it for politics. We do not expect that those who are involved in corruption to come tomorrow and offer certificates to members of the center,” Abdullah said.
Afghanistan Attorney General Farid Hamidi has said that the center will act firmly against corruption. Those involved in corruption will be punished.
“We will not allow government officials to put their hands in the pocket of the people of Afghanistan,” he said.
President Ghani said that staff of the anti-corruption center will appointed by the office of the attorney general, courts and ministry of interior.
Both Ghani and Abdullah reiterated that no one will be allowed to meddle in work of the center.
