Ghani Orders Soldiers To Take Offensive Stance

President Ashraf Ghani called on Afghan security forces to take an offensive stance against militants in the country’s north and to use all facilities available to eliminate insurgents.

“The enemy is trying to destabilize a stable region. Our clear will is that we will not let them do this,” he said in an address to security forces in Balkh on Tuesday.

At the same event, acting Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor called for the strengthening of special units among security forces.

“The Quick Reaction Force should be increased. The Police Special Unit also needs to be increased in numbers [in Balkh],” Noor said.

Meanwhile, Army Commander for the north, General Mohammad Katawazi, said his forces will leave no stone unturned to ensure the safety of Afghans wherever they are.

“The Afghan National Army is ready to defend the country and ensure the safety of the citizens against any kind of threat from insurgents,” he stated.
