Afghan Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Baz Mohammad Mubariz beat his Russian rival Maksim Katkov in an Octagon Fighting Sensation (OFS) bout on Sunday night.
The match, held at about 12:15 am local time, saw Mubariz, 26, beat Katkov, who is also known as Moscow’s Devil, in the first round.
In the lead up to his fight, Mubarez spent three weeks in Thailand in training.
To date, Mubarez has won two belts and three cups in MMA competitions. Mubariz so far has nine professional matches under his belt, of which he has won six and lost three.
This was Mubariz’s third appearance at Russian MMA club fights since he topped a voting contest organized by Afghanistan’s Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB) fighting organization.
Earlier this month, Mubariz defeated his Russian rival Amir Satarov during another OFS bout.
He toppled his opponent with a rear naked choke submission, a victory which came almost three months after he lost to Russia’s Islam Makoev during his debut for ACB.
Mubariz started his pro career in India, where he went through a three-round battle with Kazakhstan fighter Kuat Khamitov.
