Newly-Wed Couple Killed in Sar-e-Pul Blast

A newly-married couple was killed Saturday evening in a roadside bombing in northern Sar-e-Pul, officials said.

Provincial Police Chief Mohammad Asif Jabar Khel confirmed the incident, saying the couple was killed when the vehicle they were travelling on struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Baghawai area.

The mine was said to have been planted to target the Police Chief who escaped the bombing unhurt.

Police said efforts were underway to arrest elements behind the bombing.
