President Cancels Smart City Contract, Sacks Advisor

President Ashraf Ghani’s deputy spokesman Sayed Zafar Hashemi said that the Smart City housing contract has been canceled as part of the Presidential Palace’s new decisions on the controversial deal.

He added that Ghani fired his legal advisor Abdul Ali Mohammadi and ordered that the court’s decision should be implemented on Khalilullah Frozi, one of main defaulters of Kabul Bank.

“According to findings of the probe team, the president sacked his legal advisor [Mohammadi] and also it was decided that the court decision should be implemented on Khalilullah Frozi and he has been sent back to prison,” he added.

He said it was not the end of the story; the president has made more decisions in this regard.

“This was part of the president’s decisions. Now the Smart City agreement is invalid and Ghani will take more decisions in this regard in the future,” he added.

According to findings of the probe team, the Ministry of Urban Development, the former clearance manager of Kabul Bank and the president’s former legal advisor Abdul Ali Mohammadi allegedly signed the Smart City agreement in contravention of the law.
