The Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament) on Sunday blasted government for its failure to address challenges of waste management and half-built roads in the country’s capital. The senate also urged government to immediately appoint a new mayor for Kabul city.
Members of the Meshrano Jirga said that many roads under construction in Kabul city are unfinished and that piles of garbage can be seen on almost every corner in the city.
The senators demanded that President Ashraf Ghani appoint a mayor as soon as possible.
Speaker of the Meshrano Jirga, Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, said that the Kabul mayor should be a Kabuli.
Nisar Hares, a senator, also stressed that the Kabul mayor should be someone from the city. “Otherwise, people will raise their objections,” he said.
Farhad Sakhi, another senator, said that the president has dismissed the acting mayor of Kabul city. “People are faced with numerous problems, they refer to Kabul Municipality, but there is no one resolve to their problems,” he added.
