At least three people were killed in flash floods in north-eastern Badakhshan province on Tuesday night, local officials said.

The floods came after recent rains in Shohada and Tagab districts and hit more than 17 villages, in which dozens of houses were also damaged, said officials.

“The floods destroyed 50 to 80 percent of villages and rain also started early Wednesday,” officials said. They have appealed to government for help.

Officials said that some of the villages are in remote areas of the district and there is no exact information of casualties from those areas.
