A tribal elder and a policeman were killed in a suicide attack in southern Helmand province on Sunday, local officials said.
In addition, a civilian and another policeman were injured in the attack.
The incident took place in Garemsir district of the province after a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest near a vehicle being driven by a Presidential Palace advisor on ethnic tribes, said district governor Ayoub Omar Omari.
“The advisor was not hurt in the attack,” Omari said, adding that “the suicide bomber had been walking past [the vehicle] when he detonated his explosives.”
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
